Tools and References

Community tools for building sets and reading sigils, area maps for gathering, and quick-reference tables for armour upgrades and buffs.

MHSX2G armour set builder

The MHSX2G window: search conditions and skill selection at the top, a table of results below, and the selected set's pieces, skills and needed materials on the right.
MHSX2G: pick the skills you want, and it lists matching sets

MHSX2G is a tool for finding armour sets from criteria such as skills, number of each armour type and slots. The armour piece names are all in Japanese, but the main window is mostly English. The version the guide's author published includes unreleased monsters and upcoming event armours, so set your filters carefully to avoid gear you cannot get.

Taiwan-only armours have plain English names in every version of MHSX2G the guide published. Decorations use their real in-game names.

The Z2.3 version uses the latest Japanese data files as of the end of August 2018, with English selected by default. The guide's author hosted a download. It is a third-party program, so use it with the usual care.

Sigil Hunter

A crafting result window for a sigil: a green sigil icon rated RARE-4 with a tooltip reading Found: Switch Axe Sigil Skill, Bait, Elemental Damage.
A sigil crafting result in the game

Sigil Hunter reads the skills on a sigil and prints them as text. It finds all sigils in a general sense. For example, it tells you that you have Ultra Rapid Fire, but not which ammo type it uses. The guide's author says it is no longer updated, and that you probably only want about five skills anyway. Press F1 at the top left of the sigil skill read-out for the updated notes.

The tool needs a Chinese system locale with the proper language packs, and the in-game font must be identical to the font in the guide's preview image, or it will not read properly. It also needs AutoHotkey (ahkscript.org). The guide gives the version as 20160106.

English Ferias and Loxxol script

This is a Tampermonkey-style userscript that adds basic translations to Ferias and Loxxol, two Japanese Monster Hunter Frontier data sites. It does these things:

  • Translates the hitbox quick link page on Loxxol.
  • Lets you view the individual Lv2 to Lv49 G Rank weapon upgrades.
  • Translates all loaded armour skills on armour pages when you hold the left mouse button on an armour type section (such as G Rank).
  • Translates all loaded armour skills on decoration and cuff pages when you click the fist icon at the top right of the page.
  • Translates all loaded weapon flags on weapon pages when you hold the left mouse button on a weapon type section's link (such as RNGou).
A Japanese Ferias armour page: a menu on the left, a list of armour sets with their upgrade steps in the middle, and armour piece stats such as Strong Attack, Expert and Auto-Reload on the right.

The top of the Loxxol hitbox monster list page: a title bar and a list of monster names in English letters, such as Akantor, Jebia and Vashimu.

Firefox users need Tampermonkey or an older version of Greasemonkey to use the script. Chrome and other browsers need Tampermonkey. The guide gives the version as 1.201700101. Get Tampermonkey for Firefox or Chrome. The script file is ferias.user.js. Only install a userscript if you trust its source.

The hitbox page itself is on Loxxol.

OCR tools

OCR tools turn text in a picture into text you can copy or translate.

  • ABBYY FineReader is an excellent OCR program, and you can buy it on the ABBYY website.
  • Capture2Text is completely free. Its results are slightly worse.
  • There are also phone and tablet apps that read text from photos, such as Hanping.

The guide author's other pages

The guide's author hosts several tools and databases:

  • Damage Calculator
  • Hiden Materials Calculator
  • Item Name Database
  • Decoration Name Database
  • Monster Name Database

On Hunsterverse, the item and equipment catalog and the monster field guide cover similar ground.

Armour quick reference

Armour buffs

This chart shows which buffs each armour family gives.

  • Skill Rank Boost only affects some pre-G Rank skills.
  • Gou Attack is only added if you use Gou base weapons (Gou, Burst, Origin and so on).
  • Origin and Zenith pieces apply the Critical Distance buff globally, on any Gou or higher quest.
  • Exotic skills do not take up a skill slot.
  • Damage reduction is a flat percentage reduction based on the total number of parts (10% / 17% / 24% / 27% / 30%).

Armour upgrade flow

Each row is an upgrade path, in order. Many armours skip some steps.

ArmourPathNotes
StandardBase, F, FX / FY, HC, HS, G, GF, GXMost standard armour does not go beyond HS. HC and HS are sometimes skipped, and HS can also be listed under its Chinese name without the HS branding. Some armours start at FX level or never get lettered levels at all.
Standard (U line)Base, U, R, RXMost armour does not go beyond R. These armours have no real long-term use.
Standard (S line)Base, S, L, LXMost armour does not go beyond L. These armours have no real long-term use.
SP (HR5)SPA single step with 7 levels. Mostly only useful for gathering sets with SP decorations.
Gou (HR5)Gou, Storm, Supremacy, G Supremacy, Burst, Origin
Exotic (HR5)Base, G, GF, GX
Premium (HR5)Base, F, FZ, HC, HS, GS, GP, ZPPremium armour may skip some steps such as HC. GP needs GR1 materials and ZP needs GR200 materials.
Standard G RankG, GF, GX
ZenithZ, ZF, ZY, ZXThe steps are GR200, GR400, GR600 and GR800.

More on each family is in Armour types, and on the Zenith line in Zenith armour.

Weapon quick reference

The guide repeats its weapon reference tables here. The elements and combination elements, sharpness, weapon length, Gunlance shots, sword crystals, bowgun and bow references, critical distance tables and Active Feature are all on the Weapons and Sigils page. This quick-reference page differs from it in a few numbers, which are listed below.

Weapon raw multipliers

WeaponMultiplier
Sword and Shield1.4
Dual Swords1.4
Great Sword4.8
Long Sword4.8
Hammer5.2
Hunting Horn5.2
Lance2.3
Gunlance2.3
Tonfa1.8
Switch Axe5.4
Magnet Spike5.4

The bowguns and Bow are 1.2x here too. On the Weapons page, the Magnet Spike is listed as 1.2x. The guide gives both.

Other differences

  • Bomb Coating: this page lists the Bomb Coating modifier as 1.4. The Weapons page lists it as 1.0. The other coatings agree (Power 1.5, Sleep, Paralysis, Poison and Impact 1.4).
  • Heavy Bowgun critical distance: this page says the extra 0.3x multiplier (for example 2.0 in the first half of Normal Shot range) becomes 2.3x "with an Origin or Zenith Piece and G Rank Weapon". The Weapons page says "with an Origin Piece and G Rank Weapon".

Skill mechanics

The guide repeats its skill mechanics at the end of this quick-reference page. They are covered in full in Armour, Decorations and Skills:

Written from the Monster Hunter Frontier guide by Fist (as saved in January 2022). That guide describes Capcom's old official servers; we reworded it, laid it out for Hunsterverse and added the "On Hunsterverse" notes (all of them: Hunsterverse vs the old servers). The pictures are from the original guide.
