Roads in game
Which Hunting Road a quest party runs, how the party picks one, and what happens to everyone else in it.
1. What a Road is
Hunting Road is the tower climb. The Road is the set of maps and monster pools it is built from. Rotations change the live Road every two weeks, but every Road the server has run stays playable and keeps its own board.
A quest party can be set to any Road the server has installed. The choice belongs to that party, not to the server, so two groups can climb different Roads at the same time.
2. Set your default Road on the site
Open your account page, the Account tab, panel Road you play, or the same panel at the top of the Road builder. Pick a Road and press Save Road. The server uses that Road when you open a quest party; choosing Follow the live Road leaves the party on the live Road.
Your default only applies to parties you open. A guest cannot put their own choice onto somebody else's party.
3. Choose a Road in the quest party
In the quest party, in chat:
!road
The server answers with what is installed. 0 is always the live Road:
Roads: 0 live | 1 Original Road | 2 Zenith Road. Use !road <number>.
Pin one by number:
!road 1
Road set to Original Road for this party.
A number that is not on the list gets:
No such Road. Use !road to see the list.
Outside a party the command says Roads are chosen inside a quest party.
4. What the rest of the party sees
Anyone already in the party who has a different Road gets this line in their chat:
Your Road has been set to Original Road to match the host.
Their account is now on that Road, which is the same setting the site shows, and it stays there while they are in the party. Players already on that Road are not touched, and nobody standing in town or in another party is affected at all.
5. Joining a quest party later
The client only reads the Road file when it enters town, so a player who has a different Road and then joins the party gets the same line:
This party is on Original Road. Your Road has been set to match the host.
They ready up with everyone else. The check happens when they join the party, before anyone readies, so a group cannot depart on the wrong Road by accident. Their account is set to the party's Road for as long as they are in it.
6. Join a party from Discord
Any linked hunter can open a party with /roadparty. The bot posts a message in the channel with a Join and a Leave button, on the Road that hunter has saved on the site.
- Up to four hunters, counting the one who started it.
- Joining checks that your Discord is linked and that you have a hunter, then switches your saved Road to the party's Road. Nothing else about your account changes.
- Leaving removes you from the list and puts your Road back to what it was before you joined, including back to the live Road if that is what you had.
- A party closes after three hours, and a bot restart closes any that are open. The Road it set on your account stays.
Nobody has to be in game for this. When the group is ready, whoever hosts opens the party and the server does the rest: the party starts on that Road, and anyone who joins with a different one has their Road switched to match.
7. Going back to the live Road
!road clear
This party is back on the live Road.
8. Limits worth knowing
- Joining a party sets the Road on your account; leaving the party puts back whatever you had before, including following the live Road. The site shows the same value at every step.
- Your client loads a Road when it enters town, so switching between parties on different Roads takes one town trip in between. That is how the client works, not a rule the pin adds.
- The choice lives in the game server's memory. A server restart puts every party back on the live Road.
- Only Roads installed on the server can be chosen. A Road still being designed in the builder becomes selectable once it is deployed.
- Clears are recorded against the Road the party ran, so an old Road's board keeps growing when people go back to it, separately from the records it earned while live.
