Privacy and cookies
What this website and the Hunsterverse server keep about you, why, for how long, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Who we are
Hunsterverse is a community-run Monster Hunter Frontier Z private server, not affiliated with Capcom. This page covers this website, the account API behind it, the game server and the Discord bot.
Contact: ask a staff member on our Discord (a direct message is fine for anything private). Please don't put private requests in a report: reports go to our task board.
What we keep and why
We keep only what the server, the website and the Discord bot need to work. We don't sell it, we don't use it for ads and we don't build profiles.
| What | Why | How long |
|---|---|---|
| Account: user name, password (only as a one-way hash, never readable), account rights, last sign-in time, and the IP address you created the account from | To sign you in to the game and this site, and to stop abuse | As long as the account exists |
| Discord link: your Discord user ID, if you link your account | Discord bot commands, to sign your reports with your Discord name, and to show your Discord display name next to your character on the Worlds page while you are online | Until you unlink it or the account is deleted |
| Characters and game data: character names, ranks, saves, items and storage, hunt log, guild membership | The game needs them; the site shows them on your account page, the hunter and guild pages and the leaderboards | As long as the account exists |
| Online activity: whether your character is online, in town or on a quest and which quest, and a record of each quest stay (quest, world, start and end) | The Worlds page shows who is online, in town or on a quest, with the character name, the Discord display name (server nickname or display name, never your @username) if your account is linked, and the quest. Staff use quest time for events and support | Online status: only while you are online. Quest stays: kept with no end date |
| Hunting Road entries: the Road you build, its name and description, and the character you credit as author | To run the Road vote, and to list past winners | Entries stay with their rotation; winners stay on the past winners list |
| Hunting Road votes: which entries your account voted for | To count votes once per account and let you take a vote back | Kept with the rotation. Only vote counts are public |
| Reports (report page): what you write, files you attach, and, when you are signed in, your account and linked Discord name | To find and fix problems | On our task board while it is useful; ask us to remove yours |
| Server logs: IP address and time of requests, for example sign-ins | To keep the servers running and to stop abuse (rate limits) | Only as long as needed for that |
Attached pictures are re-encoded before they are stored, which removes hidden details such as a phone's location. Our servers run on Oracle Cloud.
Cookies and browser storage
This site sets no cookies of its own and uses no trackers, analytics or ads. It keeps two items in your browser's local storage, both needed for the site to work, a third only if you tick a step on the Play page, and, only if your sign-in runs out while you send a report, the text you had typed in this tab's session storage:
| Name | Kind | What it is for | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
hvmhfz.token | Local storage, essential | Keeps you signed in after you sign in | Until you sign out, or 7 days |
hvmhfz.report-draft | Session storage, essential | Keeps what you typed in a report if your sign-in runs out, so you can sign in again and send it | Until you send the report or close the tab |
hvmhfz.play | Local storage, functional | Remembers which steps you ticked on the Play page; written only when you tick a step, never sent anywhere | Until you clear the ticks or your browser data |
hvmhfz.consent | Local storage, essential | Remembers your answer to the cookie banner | 12 months, then we ask again |
"Accept" on the banner allows optional extras; right now there are none. "Decline" changes nothing about how the site works. If we ever add something optional, it stays off until you accept.
Prontier Discord bot
Prontier is the Hunsterverse Discord bot (its terms are here). It runs on our own server and works only in the Hunsterverse Discord server, plus direct messages with people who are in it. It does not read your ordinary messages in channels, and it asks Discord for no special access to message contents or the member list. This is what it handles:
| What | Where | How long |
|---|---|---|
Your Discord user ID, when you run /link | On your game account, in our game database (through the API). The bot has no database of its own | Until you run /unlink or your account is deleted |
| Your Discord user ID, display name and @username when you use a command or button (the bot gets them from Discord with every command) | The ID is sent to our API to find your linked account and characters. The bot's log keeps the ID for some actions (looking up an account or character, a backup, an import, an announcement that pings players). The @username and display name appear in the replies and posts the command makes, such as /whois and the Road party post | Replies and posts stay in Discord until deleted there. Log lines stay in the server's log, which rotates automatically |
| Display name for the Worlds page: for linked players who are online, the bot looks up your server nickname, else your Discord display name (never your @username) and sends it to the API every 2 minutes | In the API's memory only; it is not written to the database. The bot keeps each name for 30 minutes | Forgotten when you leave the server (the bot tells the API), and when the API restarts |
Game password: the one you type in /password | Sent to our API, which stores it only as a one-way hash. The bot does not log or keep it, but Discord receives it as part of your command, so use a password you don't use elsewhere | As for your account |
Character backups and imports: the save files of your character (and the file you attach to /import) | Built or held in the bot's memory only, never written to its disk. The zip is sent to you in a direct message (so Discord keeps it there). An imported file is held for 5 minutes while you confirm, then dropped. The API logs each import | Memory: minutes. The import log: as long as the account exists |
| Road parties: your Discord ID and display name, while you are in a party | The bot's memory | 3 hours, or until the party closes or the bot restarts |
| Event posts: which announcements were already posted | A file on the bot's server (event names and cycle numbers, nothing about people) | Kept |
The bot does not store your messages, does not relay chat between Discord and the game, and does not keep a list of members or their roles. When it checks a role it asks Discord at that moment. /whois answers in the channel with a member's Discord name, game user name, user ID, Discord ID, and character names and IDs, so anyone in the channel can read it (never passwords, saves or IP addresses). Staff who run the servers can see the API's database and the bot's log. To ask us to delete or correct anything, or to unlink your account, run /unlink or message a staff member on Discord (see Your rights). Messages and files Discord holds (replies, the backup direct message) are under Discord's privacy policy; delete them in Discord.
Other services on the site
- GitHub Pages hosts this website. Like any web host, GitHub sees your IP address when you load a page (GitHub's privacy statement).
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you are a person on the sign-in, sign-up and report forms. It runs only on the home page and the report page and is needed for them to work; Cloudflare sees your IP address and browser details for the check (Cloudflare's privacy policy).
- Set builder: the set builder page shows the Frontier Set Searcher by d0t-execute, a separate site also hosted on GitHub Pages. It may keep its own data in your browser.
- Discord: links to our Discord only open Discord when you click them. If you use the Discord bot, Discord's own privacy policy applies to your messages there.
What other players can see
Character names, ranks, guilds and hunt counts appear on the public hunter, guild and leaderboard pages. Hunting Road entries show their name, description and credited character. Your user name, password, IP address, Discord user ID and @username, and which entries you voted for are never shown publicly. If your account is linked to Discord, your Discord display name is shown next to your character on the Worlds page while you are online.
To stop this, unlink your account (Discord bot /unlink) or leave our Discord.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- see the data we keep about you, and get a copy;
- correct it if it is wrong;
- delete your account and its characters, or a single report or Road entry;
- restrict or object to how we use it;
- change your cookie choice at any time (button above).
Ask on Discord. We answer within one month. If you live in the EU or the UK and think we handled your data wrongly, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
